The Spanish Socialist Group has taken a significant step by registering the Proposal for a Law on the guarantee and protection of fundamental rights against harassment resulting from abusive legal actions in Congress.
This initiative aims to address the issue of abusive legal actions and provide a framework for protecting individuals’ fundamental rights. It reflects a commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that all citizens are treated fairly and justly in legal proceedings.
The Bill incorporates the Supreme Court’s doctrine against initiating criminal cases based solely on press reports. Furthermore, it proposes that judges recuse themselves if they have publicly commented on the parties involved in a case, ensuring impartiality.

Félix Bolaños García
Minister of the Presidency, Justice and Relations with the Cortes, Félix Bolaños aims to approve the new Law of Criminal Procedure this year, modernizing the antiquated one from 1882.
Editorial comment:
This law acts as a crucial safeguard, upholding the justice system’s integrity by protecting individuals from unwarranted attacks, similar to a proposed measure in Malta that parallels this protective function.
