After our publication of videos and photos of a man seemingly idolizing Daphne Caruana Galizia as if she were The Blessed Virgin, a wave of inquiries flooded in about the identity of this self-proclaimed “wise man” desecrating the Great Siege Monument. We can now identify him as Mr. John Caruana, Head of the Monetary Policy and Operations and Eurosystem Relations Department at the Central Bank of Malta (CBM).
In his misguided tribute, Mr. John Caruana has littered the revered National Monument with countless candles and sanctimonious prayers directed at an image of Daphne Caruana Galizia, an individual who, for 25 long years, played the role of a gatekeeper for PN corruption. This abominable transformation of a sacred site into something resembling a personal graveyard is not just perplexing—it’s downright enraging.
