Nationalist Party’s Stupid Logic on Buhagiar Reinstatement

The Nationalist Party never misses an opportunity to exploit tragedy for its own desperate political gains. Their latest target is Kurt Buhagiar, who was reinstated at the Lands Authority after being on paid suspension following the tragic death of Jean Paul Sofia.

Buhagiar is facing charges of involuntary homicide. Yet the court itself did not recommend his dismissal. In a state governed by the rule of law, the court’s decisions matter. But for the PN, facts never matter – only cheap slogans and crocodile tears to scrape a few sympathy votes.

In its typical melodramatic fashion, the PN declared that Prime Minister Robert Abela “faces a clear choice: either he stands with the family of Jean Paul Sofia and the Maltese people, or he stands against them.”

Robert Abela

What stupid logic.

Does the PN now believe that people should be dismissed from their jobs before they even have a trial? Before any court finds them guilty? That is not justice – that is mob rule. It is the same Nationalist Party that preaches endlessly about due process, fair hearings, and the presumption of innocence when it suits them politically. But when there is a chance to weaponise public grief, they abandon every principle they claim to stand for.

The PN is not interested in justice for Jean Paul Sofia. It is only interested in exploiting his death for political mileage. If the court had recommended dismissal, the government would have implemented it. But the court did not. Because this country is governed by laws, not by social media trials orchestrated by the PN.

This is the truth the Nationalist Party will never admit: they stand for nothing but political opportunism. No values, no consistency, no principle. Just empty words, designed to divide, confuse, and mislead.
