Bernard Grech has once again taken to his usual platforms — NET TV and NET FM — to hurl the same tired, hollow accusations, this time against the Government’s proposed amendments to the planning regulations. According to Grech, these reforms confirm that Malta is “led by a compromised Prime Minister.” But what Grech conveniently ignores is that these are the very reforms that his party failed to deliver in 25 years of government.

Let’s be clear: the draft laws being introduced are not only long overdue — they’re essential. They are designed to modernise the planning appeals process, deliver justice to ordinary citizens, and remove political influence from decision-making. The real question is: why is Bernard Grech so afraid of that?

A Man Without Credibility — Just Noise

Bernard Grech’s opposition is not based on principle, it’s based on political desperation. This is a man who has failed to unite his own party, failed to present a coherent vision, and failed to hold any serious alternative position on planning or governance. His only tool is outrage — fake, staged, and repeated on loop.

He shouts about “lack of consultation” as if the Nationalist Party has ever respected consultation during its own tenure. This is the same PN that appointed friends, allies, and lobbyists into power without blinking — and under whose watch Malta experienced over 1,100 power cuts in 18 months. Suddenly, Grech wants us to believe he stands for good governance?

The Helena Dalli Diversion

In true PN style, Grech also tried to shift the narrative by attacking Helena Dalli’s temporary appointment as Acting President. His claim? That her past Cabinet role invalidates her for a ceremonial post. What Grech conveniently forgets is that Dalli was never found guilty of any wrongdoing. Unlike several prominent PN-linked figures — from oil scandal suspects to spineless power-brokers — Dalli has a long career of public service.

This is just more PN hypocrisy dressed up as morality — and the public sees right through it.

Europe and the Passport Scheme: Another Twisted Tale

Bernard Grech also dragged the passport investment scheme into the picture — claiming Robert Abela “had to back down” after pressure from Europe. Another lie. What the Labour Government did was defend Malta’s sovereignty, introduce reforms to strengthen the scheme, and protect its economic value. Something Grech will never understand because his only instinct is to surrender to Brussels.

Talking About the Future While Running From His Past

Finally, Bernard Grech claimed that every person who wants a better future must support the new PN Leader — a clear signal that his time is over. But let’s not pretend that Grech’s downfall is anyone’s fault but his own. Under his leadership, the PN has fractured, faltered, and fallen behind. He failed to inspire his party, failed to propose policies, and now clings to angry soundbites and bitter interviews to stay relevant.
