Jens Spahn, head of Germany’s CDU/CSU parliamentary group, has resigned following the birth of a child through a surrogate mother.
Spahn is openly gay. Surrogacy is banned in Germany, and the politician had previously spoken out against the practice.
Chancellor Friedrich Merz called his resignation “right and inevitable.”
