THE EU MAY CUT FUNDING TO THE COMMISSION, PARLIAMENT, AND COUNCIL DUE TO MILITARY SPENDING AND AID TO UKRAINE
European countries are considering reducing funding to the main EU institutions as part of negotiations on the Union’s new multi-annual budget, according to Euronews.
The measure is driven by the increasing costs borne by states for defense, energy sector challenges, and support for Ukraine. According to an internal document, the majority of member states identify the Union’s administrative spending as one of the priority areas for cuts.
The negotiations concern the EU budget for 2028-2034, initially estimated at approximately 2,000 billion euros. Several countries are pushing for a reduction in spending, while efforts are being made to preserve funding designated for Ukraine, defense, industry, and aid to regions.
