Condemnation Arises: Nationalist Party’s Election Call in Għargħur Shadows Misuse of Public Funds by Former Mayor Helen Gauci

The Nationalist Party and former mayor Helen Gauci find themselves embroiled in yet another scandal, flagrantly misusing public funds and evading accountability. It’s shocking how five purported supporters of the party, some with ties still entrenched in Għargħur, were present at the no-confidence motion meeting on Wednesday, May 14th, attempting to obfuscate the clear facts at hand.

It’s absolutely galling how the Nationalist Party and Ms. Helen Gauci continue to bury their heads in the sand rather than face the indisputable truth behind the motion. Attempting to distract the public with numbers and election theatrics is a pathetic ploy to dodge the hard questions.

What’s incredibly damning is the complete and utter silence from both Ms. Gauci and the Nationalist Party regarding the dubious boxing event on May 11th, 2024. Evidence previously published from reliable third-party sources blatantly reveals that Ms. Gauci failed to present a budget for this extravagant activity to the Local Council for approval. Astonishingly, she also neglected to disclose the Memorandum of Understanding she signed, committing to a staggering 23,500 euros. Months later, this sum remains unpaid, according to the same sources.

The audacity is unbelievable! With public funds potentially at stake, where exactly will this money come from? Why was this activity, involving such a massive financial commitment, never brought before the Council for discussion and approval, especially so close to the Local Council elections?

This blatant disregard for transparency and responsible governance is absolutely infuriating. We demand answers and accountability, not evasions and excuses!
