Labour’s Strategy: Defend What Is Strong, Attack Where Victory Awaits

In our previous article, we argued that Labour must strike before the Nationalist Party regroups under its new leader. Today, we take this strategy further.

Labour’s invincibility lies in defending what it has built over the past decade:

  • Strong economic growth

  • Stability and investor confidence

  • Social policies that resonate with working families

  • A modernised national infrastructure agenda

These achievements are Labour’s shield. They are what the public trusts, and they must be fiercely protected from attacks by a desperate Opposition seeking any crack to exploit.

But defence alone is not enough. The possibility of victory lies in attack. The Nationalist Party will soon be led by a leader untested in national battles, burdened by an inherited bankrupt party, and forced to placate multiple internal factions from day one. This is where Labour’s opportunity lies.

Here is how to implement this principle:

Defend Labour’s strong record ruthlessly.

Do not allow the PN to rewrite history or discredit Labour’s achievements with cheap slogans and moral posturing.

Attack their vulnerabilities relentlessly.

Force the PN’s new leader to take positions on issues that divide their base:

    • Fiscal transparency (given the PN’s 40 million-euro debt)
    • Civil liberties and Church-State questions (which remain landmines for PN unity)

Exploit their internal chaos.

Their first months will be spent stabilising their leadership, calming dissenters, and managing debts. This is the window to attack – while their defence is weakest and their focus inward.

Frame Labour as unbreakable in defence and unstoppable in attack.

The public must see a Government that protects their interests while remaining bold enough to attack and dismantle any alternative that threatens Malta’s stability.

In politics, like in war, invincibility lies in protecting what you already own. Victory comes only when you move beyond defence to strategic, relentless attack.

Labour’s mission is clear: guard its achievements like an unbreachable fortress – and seize victory by attacking the PN’s exposed weaknesses before they even learn how to hold their new shield.
